Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook penne pasta according to package instructions until al dente (about 8-10 minutes). Drain and set aside.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic; cook until onions are translucent.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Let simmer for about 10 minutes.
Assembly
  1. Combine the cooked penne with the beef mixture and half of the mozzarella cheese in a large bowl.
  2. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
  3. Top with the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan cheese.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and cheese is bubbly.
  2. Garnish with fresh basil before serving.

Notes

For optimal results, let the sauce simmer longer to develop flavors. Consider using whole wheat penne for added fiber or substituting leaner meats.
