Ingredients

Pastry

Filling
  • 1/2 cup cream cheese, softened Smooth and rich, adds a luscious twist to the filling.
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar Sweet and airy, elevates the cream cheese.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Infuses the filling with a comforting flavor.
  • 1/4 cup sour cream Adds a slight tang and enhances creaminess.
  • 1 cup cherry pie filling Adds fruity contrast to the creamy backdrop.
  • 1 egg (for egg wash) Gives the pastry its enticing and glossy appearance.
  • 1 tbsp milk (optional, for egg wash) Adds richness and additional shine to the final bake.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface and cut into squares or rectangles. Score a border about 1/2 inch from the edges.
  3. In a bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and sour cream until smooth.
Filling and Baking
  1. Spoon the cream cheese mixture into the center of each pastry square and add a dollop of cherry pie filling on top.
  2. Brush the edges with the egg wash made from whisking an egg with milk.
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes until the pastries are golden brown and puffed up. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use room temperature ingredients for a creamy filling. Avoid overworking the puff pastry to maintain flakiness.
