Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Offers the structure and texture that’s essential for a great cookie.
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda Helps the cookies rise slightly while maintaining their soft chewiness.
  • 1/4 tsp salt Enhances flavor and balances the sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Intense chocolate flavor that defines these cookies.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened Provides richness and a smooth texture.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar Sweetness that perfectly complements the chocolate.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed Introduces a hint of caramel flavor and moisture.
  • 2 large eggs Adds binding and richness.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Gives an aromatic depth that elevates the overall flavor.
Chocolate Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips These melty morsels create the luscious lava center.
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chunks For an extra burst of gooeyness.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with an electric mixer until creamy and light.
  4. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mix, beating until fully integrated and smooth.
  5. Gradually stir in the cocoa powder until the mixture is cohesive and silky.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and chocolate chunks until the dough is thick and full of chocolate goodies.
Baking
  1. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Space them about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until the edges are set but the centers remain soft and gooey.
  3. Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

To enhance flavors, consider chilling the dough for 30 minutes before baking. Avoid overbaking to keep that lava center soft.
