Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 cups Mashed Potatoes (cooled) Use creamy, buttery mashed potatoes for the best texture.
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese Opt for sharp cheddar for a stronger flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Breadcrumbs Helps bind the mixture together.
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder Enhances the overall taste.
  • 1/4 tsp Salt Balances flavors.
  • 1/4 tsp Black Pepper Provides a subtle kick.
  • 1 unit Egg, beaten Essential for binding.
  • 1 cup Panko Breadcrumbs (for coating) For extra crispy texture.
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola) Used for frying.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, combine the cooled mashed potatoes, shredded cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until uniform.
  2. Take about a tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a ball using your hands. Repeat until all the mixture is used, forming balls about the size of a golf ball.
  3. Dip each potato ball into the beaten egg for coating, then roll each ball in panko breadcrumbs until well-covered.
Cooking
  1. Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry the potato cheese balls in batches for about 3-4 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  2. Remove the crispy potato cheese balls from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

For added variations, try different cheeses like Monterey Jack or mozzarella, and consider incorporating cooked vegetables such as spinach or bell peppers. For a healthier option, bake instead of frying.
