For the Bread
  • 1 loaf Italian or French bread (about 12 inches long) the canvas for this cheesy masterpiece

Method

Prepare the Philly Cheesesteak Filling
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. When the oil is shimmering, add the thinly sliced ribeye steak and cook for about 2-3 minutes until browned.
  2. Toss in the sliced onion and bell pepper (if using) and sauté for an additional 2-3 minutes until softened.
  3. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Season with salt and pepper to taste, then set aside to cool slightly.
Prepare the Garlic Butter
  1. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, parsley, oregano, and a pinch of salt. Stir until blended and set aside.
Assemble the Garlic Philly Cheesesteak Bread
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the loaf of bread lengthwise to create a "boat" and gently hollow out part of the inside.
  2. Brush the insides of the bread with half of the garlic butter mixture. Layer the Philly cheesesteak filling inside the hollowed bread and top with provolone and cheddar cheeses.
  3. Brush the outside of the bread with the remaining garlic butter. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Bake the Bread
  1. Bake for about 12-15 minutes until the bread is golden and the cheese is melted. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

Tips: Use a meat slicer for uniform slices, be generous with garlic, experiment with cheeses, and you can add veggies like mushrooms or spinach for more flavor.
