Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together 2 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda.
- In a larger bowl, cream together 1 cup of softened unsalted butter, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 1 cup of packed brown sugar until light and fluffy (about 3 minutes).
- Gradually beat in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and the 2 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Gradually mix the flour mixture into the butter-sugar mixture, stirring until just combined.
- Gently fold in 2 cups of semisweet chocolate chips.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into small balls. Place on prepared baking sheets and use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to create heart shapes.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are golden brown and the centers are slightly soft.
- Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
Chill the dough for 30 minutes if too soft. Use high-quality chocolate chips for better flavor. Try adding a sprinkle of sea salt or using different types of chocolate chips.
