Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, beat together the softened butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition, and then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and Valentine's-themed sprinkles or M&Ms.
Baking
- Line a heart-shaped pan with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
- Spread the cookie dough into the pan, pressing it evenly.
- Bake for 18-22 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is set.
- Let the cookie cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Frosting & Decorating
- To make the frosting, beat together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Add the vanilla extract, heavy cream, and food coloring (if desired), and mix until fluffy.
- Once the cookie cake has cooled completely, frost it with the buttercream frosting.
- Decorate with additional sprinkles, M&Ms, or edible glitter if desired.
- Slice and enjoy your festive heart-shaped cookie cake!
Notes
Cool your butter slightly before mixing; it helps achieve that light and fluffy texture. You can also experiment with different types of chocolate chips for varied sweetness.
