Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips and optional chopped nuts.
- Using a tablespoon or cookie scoop, drop rounded balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
- Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Notes
For an extra chewy cookie, chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before baking. A sprinkle of sea salt on top of the cookies before baking adds a flavor contrast to the sweetness.
