Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, white vinegar, and vanilla extract, whisking until blended.
  4. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
Baking
  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Frosting
