Ingredients

Donut Batter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree the star of the show!
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar for rich, molasses flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder for that perfect rise
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice for that autumn aroma
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk to make it extra moist
  • 1 large egg to bind everything together
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for depth of flavor
Brulee Topping
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar for the delectable topping
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted to help caramelize

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your donut pan thoroughly.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, pumpkin pie spice, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, combine pumpkin puree, granulated sugar, brown sugar, buttermilk, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  5. Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each cavity about halfway.
Baking
  1. Bake for about 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Let the donuts cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
Brulee Topping
  1. Mix the granulated sugar and melted butter in a small bowl.
  2. Generously sprinkle this mixture over the top of each donut.
  3. Use a kitchen torch to caramelize the sugar until it forms a crisp crust.
  4. Allow the brulee topping to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a deeper flavor, try toasting the spices before adding them to your mixture. Feel free to add chopped nuts or chocolate chips for extra texture and flavor. If you don't have a kitchen torch, you can broil the sugar-topped donuts briefly in the oven.
