Ingredients
Method
Preparation of Dough
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt. Mix well.
- Add warm milk, softened butter, and egg. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about an hour.
Making the Custard
- In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch until well combined.
- Gradually pour warm milk into the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook until thickened. Stir in vanilla extract and let cool.
Forming the Buns
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release air.
- Divide the dough into equal portions and shape them into balls.
- Flatten each ball, place a spoonful of custard in the center, and fold to seal.
- Place the filled buns on a lined baking tray and let rise for 30 minutes.
Baking the Buns
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Top each bun with mashed raspberries mixed with sugar.
- Bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Check the temperature of warm milk to avoid killing the yeast. Also, consider using whole wheat flour or applesauce as healthier swaps.
