Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
- Incorporate the egg and vanilla extract into the butter-sugar mixture and mix until smooth.
- Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Roll the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and place them on the baking sheets, leaving 2 inches of space between each.
- Lightly press down on each dough ball with a fork to flatten them slightly.
Baking
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are light golden brown.
- Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
Icing
- In a bowl, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Color the icing by dividing it into bowls and adding food coloring.
- Once cooled, decorate the cookies with icing and add sprinkles or edible glitter.
- Allow the icing to set before serving.
Notes
Chill the dough if it's too sticky. Customize shapes with cookie cutters. Experiment with extracts for unique flavors. Use natural dyes for coloring if preferred.
