Ingredients
  

For the patties
  • 1 lb ground beef Freshly ground beef adds a juicy flavor.
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs Helps bind the patties together.
  • 1 large egg Acts as a binder.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Adds an aromatic kick.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Enhances savory depth.
  • to taste salt and pepper Essential for seasoning.
For cooking
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil For frying the patties.
  • 1 large onion (sliced) Adds sweetness.
For the gravy
  • 2 cups beef broth Provides a rich base.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce Adds depth to the sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour Used to thicken the gravy.

Method
 

Cooking
  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Carefully place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through.
  2. Once cooked, remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and sauté for about 5 minutes, until softened and translucent.
  4. Stir in the flour and a pinch of garlic powder with the sautéed onions. Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
  5. Place the cooked hamburger steaks back into the skillet with the gravy. Reduce the heat, cover, and let them simmer for about 5-10 minutes.
  6. Serve hot, ladling ample gravy and onions over each patty.

Notes

Make patties ahead of time and refrigerate. Experiment with different types of ground meat.
