Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions by mixing with water, vegetable oil, and eggs until smooth.
- Stir in the chopped fresh strawberries evenly throughout the batter.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, beat together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, sour cream, and vanilla until smooth.
- Once the cake is done, let it cool slightly and gently press down on the surface to create 'earthquakes' or cracks.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the top, letting it seep into the cracks.
- Bake the cake again for about 10 minutes to set the cream cheese layer.
Topping
- Whisk together the powdered sugar and milk until smooth and drizzle over the warm cake.
- Garnish with fresh sliced strawberries and serve warm.
Notes
For variations, try different flavored cream cheese or mix-ins like nuts or chocolate chips. Leftover cake can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.
