Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure that it’s hot and ready for baking.
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent your pastries from sticking.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry until flat and smooth.
- Using a cookie cutter, cut out heart shapes from the rolled pastry.
- Place a small spoonful of strawberry jam in the center of each heart-shaped pastry piece, being careful not to overfill.
- Top the jam with slices of fresh strawberries, layering them neatly.
- In a small bowl, mix the beaten egg with water and brush this mixture around the edges of the hearts.
- Gently fold the heart shapes over to enclose the filling, pressing the edges together to seal.
- Place the hearts on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with the remaining egg wash.
Baking
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden and puffed.
- Let them cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.
Notes
Tips: Use homemade strawberry jam for an extra special touch, or experiment with other fruit jams. Ensure your puff pastry is cold when handling for better puffing.
