Pastry Ingredients
  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed This flaky, buttery pastry provides the perfect backdrop for your sweet filling.
  • 4 tablespoons strawberry jam Aromatic and sweet, the jam adds a delightful layer of flavor.
  • 1 egg beaten For an essential golden egg wash that brings a beautiful sheen to the pastries.
  • 1 tablespoon water Helps to combine with the egg for the egg wash.
  • Fresh strawberries thinly sliced Juicy and vibrant, they enhance the flavor and appearance of your pastries.
  • Powdered sugar for dusting Adds a final touch of sweetness, making your hearts look enticing and elegant.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure that it’s hot and ready for baking.
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent your pastries from sticking.
  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry until flat and smooth.
  4. Using a cookie cutter, cut out heart shapes from the rolled pastry.
  5. Place a small spoonful of strawberry jam in the center of each heart-shaped pastry piece, being careful not to overfill.
  6. Top the jam with slices of fresh strawberries, layering them neatly.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the beaten egg with water and brush this mixture around the edges of the hearts.
  8. Gently fold the heart shapes over to enclose the filling, pressing the edges together to seal.
  9. Place the hearts on the prepared baking sheet and brush the tops with the remaining egg wash.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden and puffed.
  2. Let them cool slightly before dusting with powdered sugar.

Notes

Tips: Use homemade strawberry jam for an extra special touch, or experiment with other fruit jams. Ensure your puff pastry is cold when handling for better puffing.
